바르바라 & 마르는 바르바라 굴라예바와 마르 카네트 솔라가 2009년에 결성한 작가 듀오입니다. 이들은 디지털 기술과 관람객이 직접 참여하는 방식을 활용해, 인간의 인식과 기술의 관계를 탐구해 왔습니다.

〈파괴의 시선〉은 AI 이미지 생성 기술과 시선 추적 시스템을 결합해 관람객이 바라보는 곳에 실시간으로 반응하는 작품입니다. 화면 속 풍경을 바라보면 시선이 머무는 곳의 환경이 오염되고 파괴됩니다. 반대로 시선을 거두면 훼손된 풍경은 다시 회복되기 시작합니다. 관람객이 바라보는 지점에 따라 화면이 계속 달라지면서, 작품은 하나의 고정된 이미지가 아니라 끊임없이 변화하는 장면이 됩니다.

이 작품에서 관람객은 화면을 바라보기만 하는 사람이 아닙니다. 보는 행위 자체가 이미지의 변화에 개입하는 하나의 행동이 되고, 관람객은 자신의 시선이 환경을 바꾸는 과정을 직접 경험하게 됩니다. 작품은 이렇게 ‘본다’는 행위를 단순한 관찰에서 책임의 문제로 바꿔놓습니다.

Varvara & Mar is an artist duo formed in 2009 by Varvara Guljajeva and Mar Canet Sola. They use digital technology and audience participation to explore the relationship between human perception and technology.

Visions of Destruction combines AI image-generation technology with an eye-tracking system, responding in real time to where the viewer looks. As you look at the landscape on the screen, the area under your gaze becomes polluted and damaged. When you look away, the damaged landscape begins to recover. Because the screen changes according to where each viewer looks, the work is not a fixed image but a continuously changing scene.

In this work, viewers do more than simply look at the screen. Looking itself becomes an action that changes the image, allowing viewers to experience how their own gaze affects the environment. In this way, the work turns the act of looking from passive observation into a question of responsibility.
