The Chapter Three project Dear Future continues the ideas explored in Made in Earth. It brings together 28 emerging ceramic artists selected from 28 universities across Korea. They begin with a question: “What legacy of Earth should be sent to another planet 100 years from now?” This is not an attempt to predict the future. Instead, it asks us to reconsider the present across a much longer span of time and from the perspective of the planet as a whole.
The artists work with clay shaped over immense geological time, exploring how the thoughts and sensibilities of today might be carried into the future. Here, clay is more than a material. It becomes a record of place, labor, ecology, and culture accumulated over time.
So, of the things we make today, what will endure, and what will be passed on to future generations? In this project, ceramics are not simply artifacts of the past. They become messages from the present to a future we have yet to encounter.
Amid ecological crisis and rapid technological change, Dear Future asks us to consider what it means to leave something behind for the future. Take a closer look at each ceramic work and see how the 28 artists have responded to this question.
