Amorphous Crystals: Pinnachite #8, 2025

Stoneware, 3D printed porcelain, sculpted feldspar and silicate mineral, 1260℃, 33 x 44 x 26cm.

This work is a collaborative project growing out of 《Sintering》, made jointly by Lai Kwan Hei Myron and Mok Hoi Ching Silvester in 2023. Using 3D printing technology to create ceramic forms and applying experimental glazes over them, the two artists explore the new possibilities that emerge where technology and material meet.

The process begins with building a 3D model of a fractal structure on a computer. The form designed this way becomes an actual ceramic work as a 3D printer precisely builds up clay layer by layer. When the surface is then coated with experimental glazes and fired, the glaze forms and grows three-dimensional crystals across the ceramic's surface.

In this way, two distinct methods of production coexist within the work. One is the 3D printing technology that precisely builds clay into a planned form; the other is the material nature of the glaze, which transforms on its own during firing to create a unique character. Through this interplay of control and chance, order and chaos, they explore what kind of relationship maker and material can form in contemporary ceramic art today.
