Having meticulously explored how glazes shift with temperature, Lee Uiyoung captures on white porcelain the subtle transformation of ice melting into water. He focuses on the matte texture of ice contrasted with the luminous clarity of water. By applying different glazes to selected areas and adjusting firing temperatures and cooling rates, he creates the distinct textures and atmospheres of ice and water. This contrast vividly highlights the fleeting moment of ice melting into water, showcasing the multifaceted qualities inherent in white porcelain. Furthermore, forms created by gathering and interconnecting droplets generate rhythm through repetition and density, infusing the work with the vitality of flowing water. In doing so, the artist broadens the expressive possibilities of white porcelain and glazes.
