[Chapter.3] Scenocosme
ENG
Scenocosme is a French artist duo, Grégory Lasserre and Anaïs met den Ancxt, who have worked together since 2003. They combine technology with natural elements such as living plants, trees, and clay to reveal the invisible relationship between our bodies and the environment through sound and vibration. The viewer’s body is always at the center of their work.
The three works are installed across two locations: the pine grove outside the museum and the museum’s third floor. In Pulsations, place your ear or body against the trunk of a living tree. You can hear and feel heartbeat-like sounds and vibrations resonating inside the tree and within your own body. As the tree and your body resonate together, the work creates a sense of intimacy between the two.
On the third floor, in Akousmaflore, the living plants themselves become sensors. Gently touch the leaves, and each plant responds with a different sound. The technology remains hidden within the installation. Rather than objects to simply look at, the plants become living presences that respond to your touch.
In Inspirations, the clay sculpture responds to touch and breath through sound. When you touch the sculpture and breathe on it, it responds with sound, and the response changes depending on the strength of your breath. Your own touch and breathing become part of how the work sounds.
Across all three works, technology does not draw attention to itself. Instead, it allows contact with trees, plants, and clay to be experienced through sound and vibration. What matters to Scenocosme is not the technology itself, but the relationship between people and nature that these encounters reveal. As you touch the works, listen to their sounds and feel their vibrations. Notice how your own body connects with the natural world.
