김호정 작가는 흙을 인간의 삶과 시간, 기억을 품어온 오래된 물질로 바라보며 전통과 현재의 관계를 탐구한다. 선사시대 토기와 조선시대 달항아리에서 발견한 형태와 비례를 바탕으로, 전통을 동시대의 감각으로 새롭게 풀어낸다. 흙의 고유한 물성과 제작 과정에서 발생하는 우연한 변화를 받아들이며 인간과 자연, 시간과 물질이 관계 맺는 지점을 자신만의 조형 언어로 담아낸다. 작가는 전통을 과거에 고정된 유산이 아닌 오늘의 시선으로 새롭게 해석되는 살아 있는 감각으로 바라본다. 흙을 쌓고 다듬고 표면을 매만지는 반복적인 행위를 통해 재료와 교감하며, 과거의 조형에 새로운 비례와 색채, 표면의 리듬을 더해 현재의 시각 언어로 확장한다.

Regarding clay as an ancient material that has carried within it human life, time, and memory, Kim Hojung explores the interplay between tradition and the present. Drawing on the forms and proportions found in prehistoric earthenware and Joseon moon jars (dalhangari), she reinterprets tradition through a contemporary lens. She embraces the inherent material qualities of clay and the spontaneous transformations that occur in the making process, giving form to the intersection of humans and nature, time and material through her own sculptural language.

Rather than viewing tradition as a legacy fixed in the past, she approaches it as a living presence to be reinterpreted today. Through the rhythmic, repetitive process of throwing, shaping, and finishing the surface, she builds a dialogue with the material—bringing historical forms into a contemporary visual language through distinct proportions, rich color, and tactile rhythm.
