정영락 작가는 어린 시절 할아버지와 함께 반야심경을 읊으며 접한 기억과 불교적 사유를 바탕으로 작품 세계를 구축해왔습니다. ‘모든 존재는 불성을 지니고 있다’는 할아버지의 가르침은 오랜 시간 작가의 내면에 자리하며 <만다라 시리즈>와 불상 작업의 중요한 출발점이 되었습니다. 작가는 이러한 기억과 사유를 작업에 담아 인간과 존재의 본질을 탐구하며, 불교적 세계관을 자신만의 조형 언어로 풀어내는 작업을 이어가고 있습니다. 특히 불상과 반가사유상, 두상 등의 형상을 통해 어린 시절부터 축적된 경험을 현재의 작업으로 연결하며, 자신이 바라보는 존재의 의미를 차분하게 형상화합니다.

Youngrak Chung has developed her artistic practice around Buddhist thought and childhood memories of reciting the Heart Sutra with her grandfather. Her grandfather’s teaching that “all beings possess Buddha-nature” has long remained with her, becoming an important point of departure for her Mandala Series and sculptures of Buddhist figures.
Infusing these memories and reflections into her practice, she explores the essence of human beings and existence, translating a Buddhist worldview into her own sculptural language. In particular, through images of Buddhist figures, including the Pensive Bodhisattva and sculpted heads, she connects experiences accumulated since childhood to her current work, quietly giving shape to her understanding of existence.
