Based on the forms of vessels, Chris Gustin's works imply that they are for utilitarian purposes. Even so, he blurs the classical meaning of bowls, making then into something unfamiliar, by making them as big as a human body. The sheer size of his works give them an imposing massiveness and feeling of abstraction that makes them surreal, though they still remind us of the “body” of a human being. The fluid flowing curves of the silhouettes, and changing forms seen from different angles, and smoothness of the well-glazed surfaces are to touched and appreciated. He causes us to recall memories by showing images that are changing constantly along with the massiveness of his bowls.
