Special Exhibition: A Museum-Curated Ceramic Art Exhibition Connected to the Art Market

This special exhibition connects contemporary ceramic art with the art market, highlighting both its expanding possibilities and commercial potential. It seeks to reposition ceramic craft from “everyday craft” to “contemporary art,” and—through collaboration with Designhouse Co, Ltd.—to establish a pathway into the art market based on the museum’s specialized curatorial expertise in ceramics.

Under the theme “Korean Ceramics, Yet Unfamiliar,” the exhibition focuses on relatively lesser-known genres such as Earthenware, Goryeo Glazed Celadon, White porcelain painted with iron, and Buncheong ware painted with iron. By doing so, it moves beyond the conventional focus on celadon and white porcelain, presenting the diversity of Korean ceramics and their potential for contemporary interpretation.
The exhibition features approximately 60 to 100 works by five to six contemporary ceramic artists. These works are presented across two venues—the museum and Gallery Jiuheon operated by Designhouse—creating a dual structure that connects viewing with acquisition. Through this approach, the exhibition aims to broaden public perception of Korean ceramics and enhance their accessibility for both domestic and international audiences.
